One of the things I look forward to in reviewing the Old Testament this year is getting beyond the stories or history. Within the historical events, I have understood a cycle of the Lord and His interactions with His people. Like people today they go back and forth, receiving commandments, trying to be obedient and slipping into old habits. Through it all God still supports His people, invites them to repent and fulfills His promise to them. All things point to an Anointed One, even the coming of a Messiah to redeem His people.
Today, it is the same for us, we look forward to the return of this same Redeemer, even Jesus Christ who is the God of the Old Testament and the Redeemer in flesh from the New Testament.
This year, while I study the Old Testament, I want to remember to find those places where the God they worshipped offered covenants and how similar they are to the covenants we are offered today.
